Brass has been selected for its natural antibacterial properties as well as its warmth and beauty. Brass also has some natural lubricating properties to allow easy connection and disconnection of the shaft to the piston. The connection is made possible by a triple start thread. This may seem minor but the engineering function this provides for the design intent is significant. 1 revolution connects or disconnects where a typical thread would require approximately 4 revolutions. Another advantage of multi-start threads is their resistance to cross threading. Finally, the breaking force is very low due to the higher pitch, this means that we have balanced the seal friction against the glass with the force required to break the thread.
