GROUNDD xpress is your all-in-one brewing and drinking vessel, a companion to help you connect with your surroundings and become more grounded. The product is engineered to be functional and familiar and will become essential to your morning (or any) routine or ritual. Simple steps for a perfect tea or coffee:

How it works

Simple steps, start to last sip.

No filters to buy, no pods, no second cup to wash up.

Step 1

Add your grounds or leaves

One lidful of medium grind coffee, or a tablespoon of loose leaf tea.
Step 2

Add hot water

Fill it up and let it brew. About four minutes for coffee, less for tea.
Step 3

Attach the plunger and lid

The lid seals as it goes on, so nothing spills while the brew develops.
Step 4

Plunge to pause the brew

When it tastes right, press down. Extraction stops and the strength is locked in.
Step 5

Add milk or sweetener

Optional. Unlock the shaft, add what you like, then reconnect.
Step 6

Drink from the cup, or seal it and go

Take the lid off and drink from the glass, or seal the anti spill lid and take it with you.

360 Degree Drinking Lid

Together, the base and top lids deliver the beverage to your mouth with comfort and familiarity. It was essential the product felt right on your lips: no sharp edges, no lining up little mouth holes, no slurping or residue left over. Even the height and profile of the edge have been designed to 0.2mm precision and tested on a lot of faces. Fluid dynamics were modelled so the liquid breaks clean off the edge instead of dripping down the body of the cup - convenience by design, not by accident.

Anti-spill drinking seal

Made to be taken on the run without spilling, a quarter turn seals the lid and protects you from unwanted splatter.

Quick Release

One quick twist connects or releases the shaft from the plunger - where a typical thread would need about four turns. That's the triple start thread at work. Made from marine grade stainless steel, the quick release is food safe and made to last. Multi-start threads also resist cross threading, and the breaking force is low because the seal friction against the glass is balanced against the force required to break the thread. All planned and all precise - no accident.

Pausing plunger assembly

The hero of the product - the core of the design and the real innovation. With two opposing valves you can control exactly when your brew stops, and with tea you can even change the flavour profile if you want it stronger.

Borosilicate drinking Glass

Made from lead free virgin materials, the glasses are hand blown with precision by artisans. Borosilicate is the same glass used in lab equipment, but we have increased the thickness to improve toughness, with quality control and a manufacturing process new to the industry. The volume is calculated for a medium 12oz coffee or tea and sized for an 18-20g coffee shot (the industry standard). The piston and shaft are designed to minimise the liquid trapped on the dirty side while still achieving 12oz and keeping the handle flush with the lid. The diameter is close to a beer or soda can, so the GROUNDD cup fits virtually every vehicle cup holder.

Pausing Plunger

The plunger seals exactly against the wall of the glass so no grind or sediment escapes into your cup - the simplicity of this component was the real achievement, and the tolerances were critical to get right. Made from a toughened alloy steel with titanium PVD coating for durability and stability. Umbrella valves control the flow and make cleaning easy. Minimal moving parts, self cleaning, temperature resistant, hygienic and FDA approved materials mean submerging it in boiling water carries zero risk of plastic leaching. Your health and convenience were the real priority.

Umbrella valve set

These valves stop over-brewed liquid escaping from the 'dirty' side of the piston - the breaking pressure is designed for both static and dynamic loading. Each valve is optimised for the viscosities seen in tea and coffee, with fluid dynamics informing the thickness and hardness of the valves and how liquid flows through. They can be removed easily for a deep clean without damage, and if you lose or damage one you can repair rather than replace.

Plunger and Lid Seal

These seals are interchangeable, so in the worst case if the piston seal breaks you can use the lid seal while you wait for a replacement. Made from FDA approved silicone, they don't release microplastics and are mould resistant. They also fit 70mm lids - if you have a Yeti you can borrow your Yeti seal temporarily, and our seals will fit a Yeti lid, so you don't need to buy a full replacement lid.

Stainless steel laser cut filter

The filter keeps fines and floaties out of your cup, so you taste the brew and nothing else. Extensive testing identified the optimal aperture size and plate thickness. Made from surgical grade stainless steel 316, laser etched for perfect apertures with no flashing. Each component has been treated as a product in its own right, with extensive prototyping and research into particle size distribution through the filter across a range of grind sizes. This was a surprising part of development - the filter plays a significant role in the flavour profile.
