The Story

Hi, I’m Nick.

A father, a surfer and an executive on the go with 25 years experience in plastics and product development. My partner Astra, is a mother and a grounded spiritual Aryuvedic practitioner. Somewhat of a Dharma and Greg (for those growing up in the 90’s), the ying and yang, the push and pause, the opposites that attract.

Astra, as a tea drinker started a tea company specialising in organically sourced Aryuvedic teas called Teaity. As I was always on the run I seldom have time for the ritual of tea and prefer to grab a takeaway coffee. Astra and I often debate Tea vs Coffee but never converge due to the ‘inconvenience’ of brewing loose leaf teas.
We do agree on the negative aspects of take away cups and tea bags due to the microplastics and chemicals used in their manufacturing that in use leach into our bodies and contaminate the environment for 100's of years when disposed.

We live with our 2 children to Margaret River, which is a small town Western Australia where the raw Southern Ocean Swells meet the stunning old growth forests. Margaret River is a surfing, mountain biking, hiking and wine mecca. Here life slows down and the beauty of the region allows time to reflect and create.

After Astra started her business I began appreciating tea as well as coffee but did not enjoy the inconvenience and inflexibility of loose leaf tea. On a 2 week surfing trip to the Mentawis islands in Indonesia, I had time to think about how I could make drinking loose leaf tea more convenient and appealing to more people like me and the idea for a brew pausing mechanism to control and separate tea leaves ignited. 12 months later and after hundreds of 3D printing parts multiple visits overseas and countless failed prototypes a working concept for a system to brew the perfect loose leaf tea was created.

But what about my love for coffee…

For the next 8 months the product was refined and modified to achieve a dual purpose device, the perfect pairing, a marriage of tea and coffee, the ying and yang bringing me back to the root and catalyst of the idea. A union of 2 people that are aligned in value system but are far from the same. The circle that meets again – the O in our logo.

A unique series of events, combination of skills and experiences, changes in environments, worldly awareness, health and mindfulness, engineering and creativity, perseverance, partnership, family, love and the ability to stay grounded are just some of the ingredients that have brought this product to life.
